Historical Background
The 2N109 was one of the first
transistors to be made available commercially by RCA (in 1955) and was used
extensively in audio output circuitry for many of the first transistors,
including those from RCA. The 2N109
was also used in the Fisher model TR-1 Preamp, introduced in 1957 as the
first “All-Transistor Hi-Fi” product.
The 2N406 followed shortly and was designed for use in audio preamp
circuitry, again in transistor radios.
Both these transistor types were extremely popular and were
manufactured and sold for over a decade by RCA for all types of audio
applications.
