HISTORIC
NOTES The 2N508 was one of the first germanium transistors developed specifically for stable and high quality audio driver performance. Introduced in 1957, this was a very successful device and was produced by GE for over a decade. The first use of the 2N508 in HiFi audio circuits was documented in the 1958 3rd edition of the GE Transistor Manual, where this device is shown in both solid state and in hybrid (transistor and vacuum tube) HiFi circuits. In addition, GE manufactured professional quality audio preamplifiers in the late 1950s and early 1960s which used the 2N508. The 1958 Allied Radio catalog lists the 2N508 for $1.87. |
