HISTORIC NOTES The 2N72 was the result of an Industrial Preparedness contract awarded by the U.S. Signal Corps to RCA in 1953/54. The purpose of this contract was to ensure that transistors could be manufactured in commercial quantities with the current state of technology. After an initial run of 2000 units, no additional units were made.
