Essay Commentary Apparently
some of the M1752 transistors were not labeled with either a color code or
text, but were identified with a serial number on a paper strip attached to
one of the leads. The photos above
show two such units, with paper label serial numbers “DE838 and DE684”. (The top left photo provides a comparison
of “DE838” with a color-coded M1752).
These unmarked units appear to be physically identical to the M1752s
shown earlier. The bottom photo is an
extreme close-up of “DE838” and clearly illustrates the unrefined nature of
the early junction transistor manufacturing processes. Go
