Raytheon introduced the 2N6X line in 1954, and several other companies soon offered second source devices, including Tung-sol with a Robin’s Egg Blue version (see above photo). Other companies included General Transistor, Transitron and ETCO. The Lafayette Semi-Conductor catalogue from 1960 (see excerpt above right) lists the 2N65 at $4.55, which is over $30 in today’s $! |

The mid 1950s saw numerous industry announcements of Raytheon’s new transistors. Above is section of a June 1955 Tele-Tech ad, which also included details specs on the 2N6X line. At bottom left is a section of a Feb 1955 ad from the Proc of the IRE, touting the virtues of hermetic sealing. The colorful comparison chart at left is from a 1950s Raytheon catalogue, and provides a useful spec list. |
