POWER TRANSISTORS

ABOVE, L-to-R:   Not to be outdone totally in the Germanium transistor field, Transitron was working in parallel on some type of more conventional output device.  The first item, the "Z123", is a Germanium prototype similar to the "2N83" prototype, likely from 1955.  The next evolution came about with the second item "Z123" in a TO-3 mounting along with it's cut-open version, item number three, likely from 1956.  While pretty conventional looking this device did not seem to translates into any viable market product.  However, later in 1960, Transitron released a conventional looking Germanium TO-3 type, the last item "2N1421", again not RETMA/JEDEC registered.

The above portion of an ad, from June of 1958, shows the widening product line of Transitron silicon 'medium power' transistors.  Both wide flange and stud mounted versions, rated at 5 watts dissipated power, were now available.
