Since its introduction over 40 years ago at the 1962 IRE convention, the 2N2222 has been used in countless applications, ranging from high reliability use in space flight and medical applications to widespread use in amateur radio and general purpose circuit applications.  There is no other transistor type which has demonstrated this continued level of commercial success for so many years  - the 2N2222 continues to be  the most widely used transistor ever developed and has found a unique place in the history of transistor technology.
