Here are scans from two different issues of the
RCA Ham Tips Publication. The upper
scan is a partial view of the cover of the Spring 1965 issue, which
highlights the Nuvistor/transistor transceiver construction project by Bob
Mendelson mentioned in this Biographic Note.
The scan on the left is edited from the cover of the May 1961 issue,
with an article about an all-Nuvistor amateur radio converter – according to
Bob, this article and associated ad generated more requests for copies of the
article than any previous ad. In the
early to mid 1960s, the Nuvistor technology provided a very cost effective
alternative to some transistor applications, particularly for high frequency
uses. Bob was very active in
promoting both of these technologies through numerous articles and talks
aimed at the ham radio audience.
