Photo Essay Commentary

Zenith was the premier manufacturer of transistor radios in the mid 1950s.   The Zenith model R500 (Royal 500) is famous as the first really high performance transistor radio.  As you can see from the photos, one of the series of R500s used a set of “Raytheon Blues” – there are seven of these transistors in the radio and all are socket mounted.  The types used are CK759 (2N111) and the CK725 – these types are also marked with the proprietary Zenith numbering scheme (121-11 for the CK725).
